An Image of Heaven?

As a church we have known bereavement and loss in recent days.  We have also known the joy of rich Bible study and spiritual fellowship as we have been going through the Gospel of Mark.  The raising of Jairus’ daughter cheers me when thinking about death.  The twelve year old girl had died.  Jesus came with Peter, James and John as well as the girl’s father and mother into the sorrowful home where her body lay.  He ‘put out’ from the house the professional mourners.  Then, taking the girl by the hand Jesus spoke and raised her back to life.

As she opened her eyes, she will have seen Jesus first of all.  He was standing by her.  Then she would have seen her mother and father.  After that, she would have looked at and met the nearby disciples of Jesus who were there.

I imagine that that is how heaven will be.

After death has closed my physical eyes I will awaken first to see Jesus.  What a wonderful sight of the life-giving Friend of Sinners.  Then, I will see my loved ones who have gone before and been welcomed by the Saviour.  And then I will be with the host of Jesus’ followers, each of them, blood-bought disciples.

Filled with glory and grace;

I want to see my Saviour’s face;

Heaven is a wonderful place.’♫
