New Year's Honours

Buckingham Palace has published the New Year's Honours list. These are people whose services to the country have been officially recognised and they will be summoned to the Palace to receive their gong. It's also that time of year when self-indulgent left wingers start objecting to references to the British empire and royal patronage.

The most common awards are
  • Companion of Honour - Limited to 65 people.
  • Knight or Dame
  • CBE - Commander of the Order of the British Empire
  • OBE - Officer of the Order of the British Empire
  • MBE - Member of the Order of the British Empire
  • BEM - British Empire Medal
  • OB - Order of the Bath
Being knighted, like Andy Murray shall be, entitles him to be addressed as Sir Andy. His wife will be elevated from mere Mistress (Mrs) to Lady.

In 2 Corinthians we read For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (5:10)

I'm unlikely to ever receive an honour from Her Britannic Majesty. Plain old Mister shall I remain. But before His Heavenly Majesty I shall one day appear, when I shall receive stars in my crown. May we labour well for the King in this coming year.
