Ostara Bunnies

Some people are cross with our supermarkets. Chocolate eggs and bunnies no longer bear the word Easter. Further evidence of our culture eradicating all traces of our Christian heritage? Not really. Eggs and bunnies were never Christian to start with. Easter derives from Ēostre or Ostara, the name of a Germanic pagan goddess who was worshipped in the spring. The big retailers have therefore divorced pagan symbols of fertility from the name of the fertility goddess whom they commemorate.

It’s not the Christians who should be upset by the supermarkets’ political correction, but the pagans.
