A Visit from the 'Jehovah's Witnesses'

A pair of ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ knocked on my door today. As usual, they caught me at a bad time, but I listened to what they said and asked a few questions of my own. They’re far less aggressive than they used to be, and sought to flatter me by saying how pleased they were that I read my Bible and attended church. They were a little taken back when I suggested that one of their main errors was the same as that of Roman Catholicism. This met with some protest.

I asked the one who did all the speaking if they could ever imagine being saved by Jehovah outside of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. ‘Oh it’s just a publishing organisation’, he lied.

“Ok, then”, says I . “Could you ever imagine breaking away from it and starting your own, independent Kingdom Hall- could Jehovah then save you?”

“Oh no!”

And this error they shared with Catholicism, I went on to explain. JWs and Catholics are taught that membership of, and obedience to, their respective organisations are essential to be saved.

Salvation is found in Christ Himself- His divine person and finished work, not some religious association. The cults and counterfeits require your membership and allegiance- Christ requires your repentance and simple faith.
