Since an early age, I always sought after knowledge and new experiences. Thinking I could fathom the mind and its intricate design, I began to study Psychology at the age of 12. Religion always seemed foolish, however I did enjoy the mystery of Buddhism, and the fact the Buddha never claimed to be a god, just a man who told us to philosophise and test everything. However, when my life was shaken violently by the intrusion of epilepsy, I had had enough of studying the mind, thinking about everything to try to reach a happier existence. Without my mother knowing, I turned to crime, alcohol and drugs. I wanted to end my life.
Clinging to my mother constantly for support, I joined her in 2006 age 15, at an ALPHA course here at Martin Top; were we discussed why Jesus was willing to suffer a horrifying death for the sins of the world. I mocked them all. I thought it ridiculous that someone could love every man and woman, ever! On the ninth week, out of ten, I was at breaking point with my suicidal thoughts, struggling to focus, I recall hearing a verse from the Bible: ‘So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.’ Intrigued by the verse, pondering that life is full of destruction where it seems that a ‘god’ does not rush in to aid the troubles of his creation, yet promises restoration from the world's and life’s damages? That night I collapsed in exhaustion at the side of my bed, crying; “If Jesus, His Father and His Spirit, is the way to forgiveness, restoration, and even a new life, then please be with me!”
Since that night, with the answer I received, I have never had to doubt Jesus, for the restoration has been incredible! Even when I feel weak, Christ is the strength that I need; prayer is so fascinating and miraculous. Now my mission is to help all I can, to experience the joy and strength in living by God’s Word and having the Lord Jesus as my all in all, for there is no other God, but He.
Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
