Wise Counsel

Tonight we held a deacons' meeting. It's good to speak openly, in confidence, with people we trust, whose judgement we know to be wise.

Proverbs 11:14 says Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety.

Some advisors are worthless. 2 Chronicles 10 tells us of King Rehoboam, son of Solomon, who took the advice he sought. 'But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.' By seeking advice from the inexperienced, and from those whose loyalty exceeded their wisdom, he made bad decisions. The people consequently rebelled and the nation split in two.

So by all means seek advice. But look for it among people who are older and wiser.

Proverbs 12:15: The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
