Britain Ariot
I have a measure of sympathy for Sir Keir Starmer. Barely a month into office, we should all be enjoying the Olympics and the ‘summer’ weather. Sadly, he is having to handle riots which seem to be breaking out in all towns and cities. Triggered by the horrid murder of little girls in Southport, simmering unrest has been brewing for some time. Longer-term resentment at ill-controlled immigration, and the perception that migrants are housed in luxury hotels while veterans are sleeping rough, as well as the perceived loss of our inner cities, seems to have exploded. Even if all these assessments of national life are correct, the bulk of them occurred on the Conservatives’ watch, not Labour’s. Nevertheless, it is for the Prime Minister to fight the fires, not the Leader of the Opposition. The wonders of diversity, multiculturalism and the decline of Christianity are all feeding the fires of thuggery, looting, hatred and division. As a social conservative, I fear disorder and chaos above all else, and this is what we have. Some Christians have already whispered to me these events’ apocalyptic undertones. While pointing out that rioting is nothing new, I do think that the mass migrations of the last half-century do seem unprecedented. As Daniel interpreted the King’s dream in chapter 2 of his prophecy, he saw a kingdom or state far into the future which would be divided and weakened on account of its ethnic assortments:
Whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potter’s clay, and part of iron: the kingdom shall be divided, but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, as thou sawest the iron mixed with the clay, and earth. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so shall the kingdom be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with clay and earth, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not join one with another, as iron cannot be mixed with clay. (Geneva Bible)
It is too tempting to think that contemporary events are those of which the prophets and apostles spoke. Yet these disturbances are an indictment of our times. Our Police’s decade-long love affair with gay Pride marches seems to have ill-prepared them for dealing with louts and ruffians. Well-paid politicians who do not need to compete with migrants for minimum-wage-paid jobs might now wake up. Smarmy liberals are staying away from work in the City in case the revolting peasants endanger their persons. If only we could have peace and safety...
Come, Lord Jesus!
