Flowers from Brokeness

This Christmas cactus is flowering beautifully. Yet its origins were less than promising. It had been broken off the mother plant and was laying on the window sill, drying up. I was tempted to throw it away, but thought I’d try it in compost. For weeks, nothing much happened, and then it took off. New shoots, new leaves and then this- a flurry of light purple flowers.

God takes broken, dying people and sticks them in a new pot. At first, nothing seems to change, and then comes buds, blooms, roots and leaves. The divine Gardener looks forward to the day when the broken plants He rescues produces good fruit to reward His care and trouble.

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Phil. 1:11
