Golden Honeysuckle

This uncommon, yellow-coloured honeysuckle I found growing in the City of London- where else, but the Company of Goldsmiths’ Garden. Its smell was as beautiful as its colour, and it provided a welcome relief from the steel and concrete with which it was surrounded. The Christian will one day inhabit New Jerusalem, which is described in effusive, golden terms:

The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. Revelation 21:18

The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. Revelation 21:21

How much is metaphor, and how much literal, I do not know, but that flourishing honeysuckle bush certainly gave me a little foretaste thereof.
