Invisible Support

A strange thing I saw the other day: a leaf floating in the sky. It was up in the air between two trees, and it moved slightly in the wind, but never altered its altitude. It was not attached to any branch or twig, nor any other thing that I could see. The only explanation I can offer is that it was caught on a spider’s web which went between the two trees, and on it, the leaf did hang. I watched it a minute or so, and my photographs are poor, but something was clearly holding it up, suspending it in mid-air.

Often, we are left dangling over some unpleasant precipice, but the Lord never lets go of His own. Upheld we are by invisible hands, supported and secured by strong, everlasting arms, which are neither seen, nor comprehended, nor heard.

He that trusteth in his riches, shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a leaf. Proverbs 11:28, Geneva Bible
