Lift up your Eyes to the Heavens
The Lord cheered me a few hours ago.
One of my Thorns in the Flesh whom the Lord employs to humble me had been doing an excellent job again, and I spent the day feeling somewhat vexed. I had prayed during the afternoon that He might give me some encouragement, and then felt bad for requesting such a prop. I tidied away and left the chapel a little after 10pm and set off home on my bike, but I was struck by a deep redness in the sky to the northeast. It was not the orange glow of light pollution, for it was too deep and crimson. It was, of course, the Northern Lights, a phenomenon I had never before managed to see. After a few minutes it faded, and I carried on my journey feeling uplifted, until I realised I had left behind my laptop and returned the half-mile to collect it. Again, the good providence of God was at work, for back at the chapel I beheld yet more red and green glow, hovering, or should I say cascading, from the sky.
Although the view was not as colourful or clear as those pictures taken by expensive cameras, it was still vibrant enough to impress me, and be reminded of our good God’s creative genius. He who splashes the night sky with deep, shimmering colours can, I think, sustain and strengthen me, in my dull little corner.
When I behold thine heavens, even the works of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained, What is man, say I, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:3-4, Geneva Bible
