Nelson's Icosahedral Sundial
There is an icosahedral sundial in Marsden Park, Nelson, which was built in 1841 by Thornber and Kippax. It has twenty faces which tell the time in different countries. It also has the ability to depict the day, date and the points of the compass. Creating a sundial like this is a feat of mathematics and engineering which baffles my brain. There are only nine others in the world, including the two others in the United Kingdom, one being at nearby Stonyhurst in the Ribble Valley.
If this timepiece baffles me, how much more the ability of God to see both past, present and future concurrently; to hear all prayers spoken the world over; to see the hidden as well as the visible; to comprehend the largest of galaxies and the tiniest of atoms?
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. Isaiah 40:28
