Puzzling Pictures 10: Dear Diary

At the beginning of this year I spent several hours with two slim, black, week-to-a-view diaries, as pictured above. I wonder whether you can work out what I was doing? It’s not very difficult to guess - at least if you yourself are in the habit of keeping such a diary.

The second question is perhaps more puzzling: why, as a result of this activity, have my blog entries been notable by their absence over the last few weeks?
