Self Improvement
This optical illusion is a wonderful picture of the natural man’s attempt to improve himself and reform his morals. Though he is plainly aware of his failings, when he examines them, they appear straighter and better than first he thought.
This is why we must be admitted to heaven on Christ’s merit alone. Only letting us in when we have made ourselves more moral would prove an endless wait. Our God’s holy impatience for our company would suffer no such endless delay. He pays the price in full so that, though crooked and bent, we are reckoned righteous and straight for merely believing in the gospel.
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets. Romans 3:21
Please, behold your faults and sinful state, but waste not time remedying them in time for heaven. Rather, trust in Christ's finished work today; He Himself shall sanctify you thereafter.
