A Third Gender

Louis Theroux’s inimitable documentary skills strike again. Interviewing various people in San Francisco, the apparent capital of America’s Transgender movement, he sympathetically digs into the issues.

We were introduced to Cole/Crystal, a young person who seemed to alternative between male and female identities. We met five-year-old Camille, who was born a boy called Sebastian. Her parents had fully accepted her gender transition. Somewhat bizarrely, we also saw two boys become girls only to then assume a lesbian relationship together. For the most part, I found it helpful to see trans-people as exactly that- people. I also go along with the sincerity of their positions. Our bodies are fallen, and this corruption expresses itself in a variety of ways, including our minds feeling a distorted relationship with our bodies.

What I find more disturbing, is the desire by some to create a third gender, or non-gender for such things as passports. Christie, born a woman but now claiming neither gender, is taking the government to court in order to create this third option.

Last week, the Church of England issued updated guidance called Valuing All God’s Children on “homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying” in schools. Like the Conservative government appealing to liberal voters’ blessing, so the dear old C of E is basking is the warm glow of Stonewall’s approval. Citizen Go, the conservative campaigning organisation, comments:

While rightly highlighting the equal dignity that all children have regardless of any other considerations, and their equal right to education, the document is nothing short of a Trojan Horse – it is a wholesale, entirely uncritical, endorsement of transgender ideology.

In an effort to stamp out bullying, the guidance wishes schools to allow children to use the changing facilities and toilets which they believe corresponds to their “gender” regardless of any consideration for the privacy or well-being of other children i.e. if a boy believes he is a “girl” he should probably be permitted to use the girls’ changing facilities.

We humans have become quite skilled over these past 5000 years at attempting to re-arrange the divine order to suit our desires and foibles:

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3
