Watches

A preacher’s nightmare: members of the congregation looking at their watches.

On those days I forget to put on my own wristwatch, I run the risk of yielding my life to chaos.

On the faces of the many watches I’ve owned, I have noticed that manufacturers often boast that their products can be used underwater. If I am underwater, I am either snorkling on holiday or drowning in the canal. Either way, I don’t care what time it is.

In heaven, I suspect we will have no need of watches and timepieces. We shall be without time itself, though this raises many questions. Will we have memories? Some of us need releasing from our pasts yet our former experiences make us what we are. Will we make new memories while we are there, or does the absence of time negate such a possibility? Either way, one will not care what time it is, and we shall have no watches to keep checking.

For the former things have passed away.
