When I stand before the Throne

‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you …’ 1 Peter 1 3&4

A truth has shone on my mind this week, which has left it sparkling! Here it is:  there is only one Person in all history who has entered heaven on His own merit.  The gates would have flung wide open for Him.  No one else in heaven is there through their own merit.  But such is the merit of Jesus - His spotless life and atoning death - that anyone who belongs to Him, or even simply ‘hangs on His coat tails’ will be welcomed too.  Heaven is not a reward for doing good, or none of us would be welcomed, but heaven is a gift, purchased by Jesus on the cross, and offered to all.  Jesus took our sin, and when we call on Him He not only forgives us, but credits to our account all His righteousness.  One day I will sing His praises, because He has welcomed me to His eternal home.  I hope your mind is sparkling with this truth too!

When I stand before the Throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own;
When I see Thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart
Then, dear Lord, shall I fully know
Not till then, how much I owe.
