Chapel
Salem Chapel at Martin Top is a real gem of a building which has been listed. Not only is it historical and a glimpse into the Georgian past, but it tells us a great deal about God and his amazing grace towards human beings.
The Exterior
The front of the chapel is rather plain. This is because Protestant Christians traditionally preferred simple premises without much fancy adornment. They felt that God was more interested in inner beauty than outer decoration.
Matthew 23:27 says '"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.'
Our plain chapel reminds us of how a Christian should be- sober on the outside, but clean on the inside.
Despite our lovely building, we are aware that the Church is not bricks and mortar, but the people who worship inside it. It is we who are God's temple- He no longer dwells in temples made by hands.
We hope you will visit us at Salem Chapel, Martin Top. We'd love to see you. You will receive a warm welcome
