Cosmos
Cosmos is a pretty little flower, usually pink but sometimes purple, white, orange or red. Its height and rather feathery leaves can make a bed that little more interesting. The word itself means 'world' in Greek (κόσμος), thus, For God so loved the kosmos, that he gave His only begotten Son…
Kosmos can refer to the people of the world as well as to the physical planet they occupy. John 3:16 indicates the people; God's Son was not crucified for the sake of mountain range and forest glade. Indeed, this physical world as we know it shall be destroyed at His return, replaced by a new heavens and a new earth, wherein righteousness dwells. Just as the beautiful cosmos flower is pretty in its day but dead by winter (the one in the picture began its journey to compost some months ago), so the beautiful world we call home will itself expire, to be replaced by something greater and grander:
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” Revelation 21: NKJV.
