Sunless Summer

This seems to be a typical British summer. Cold and wet, then a week or so of warmth and sunshine…and then cold and wet with some strong winds thrown in for good measure. As I write this, it feels a little like autumn. Yet a hidden sun on a summer’s day is still warmer than a full but pale sun in a cloudless, mid-winter sky. Sometimes, Christ ‘hides’ from His people; He seems distant, His answers to our prayers seemingly placed on hold, while other tokens of His love seem absent also. Yet the Christian is still warmer, brighter and happier on such a day as that, than ever an unbeliever is in the full sunshine of his cold, Christless winter.

I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, am the God of Israel. Isaiah 45:3
