Atmosfear

Is this the atmosphere that I feel?
Is this the atmosfear?
Is this the atmosphere that I need?
Is this the atmosfear?

-Waltari.

First Brexit was causing fears of chaos. Then a mysterious Chinese virus. Now that this is subsiding, the Taliban have been released back onto the world stage. Despite my tone, I am no goggle-eyed conspiracy theorist, thinking the New World Order is speeding up its offerings. I am in receipt of giddy text messages from earnest Christian friends who think the vaccine is the Beast’s Mark, which I quietly delete. Yet it does seem that there is always something to keep us afraid, something to keep us awake at night, as though the domestic problems of running a family or holding down a job were not trouble enough. In Luke 21, Jesus described a time when

Men's hearts fail them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

He talks either of Jerusalem’s fall or the world’s end- or both. Yet He gives the believer sage advice:

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

And

28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

So do not be troubled, and await the coming of Jesus. I know not what further horrid things will occur in this grim decade. The return of Al-Qaeda? Another Cold War? An oil crisis? Whatever. Possess your soul, and keeping looking up.
