Aug/Sept 2021 A682 Road Closures

The County Council have decided to close the Gisburn to Blacko road for resurfacing from 6pm-6am. This affects our two mid-week meetings and return journeys on Sunday evening.

If you come from the west or the Clitheroe/Rimington direction, you are generally unaffected.

If you come from the east or north (Barnoldswick, Gisburn Grassington) or come from the south (Burnley, Colne, Brierfield) it is rather less convenient.

My advice:

If coming from the south, head to Barley via Fence and come through Twiston. Scenic, though you will become more familiar with second gear. Alternatively, from Barley to Downham, and through Rimington would be slightly longer but fewer twists and tuns.

If coming from the east, the options might be equally scenic. From Barnoldswick, take Brogden Lane which becomes Stocks Lane. Cross the A682 at the end, and remain on the narrow Whytha Road. After a mile, turn right onto Martin Top Lane, and come down to the chapel.

The Chief Engineer is trying to keep that section of the A682 free on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for our benefit. If this does not happen, you may do the long-haul to Chatburn or the route via Barley. This could last four weeks, but will hopefully be completed sooner. At least we get a smoother road in the long-run.
