Canadian Nightmare

This nightmarish story was reported in this month's Evangelical Times. It is a deeply disturbing and dystopian tale which anticipates the kind of horrors that we in Great Britain might face if His Majesty’s current government has its way regarding ‘Conversion Therapy’ bans. If anyone needs proof that the Pride Movement currently saturating the Western world is more than just an attempt to create respect for minorities, but a carefully constructed campaign to foist a whole new, anti-Christian ideology upon us, here is:

A small Canadian town and its mayor have been ordered to pay CA$15,000 (£8,306) for refusing to celebrate ‘Pride’ month.

Although the Mayor of Emo, Harold McQuaker, refused to pay his $5,000 (£2,700) of the sum and attend the re-thinking training mandated on him by the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, authorities allowed his bank account to be raided for the amount.

The Corporation of the Township of Emo is also having to pay up its own share of the costs to Borderland Pride, the activist group which brought the case against Emo town council.

In 2020, Borderland Pride accused Emo town council of discrimination after it voted against displaying a multicoloured ‘LGBTQ2’ flag for one week during June.

Ahead of the 2024 tribunal, Borderland Pride offered to drop proceedings if the Mayor and Council agreed to a published apology, financial compensation, diversity training, and ‘adopt Pride proclamations in the future’.

As part of the deal, the activist group said it would donate some of the compensation to Emo Public Library ‘on the condition that it host a drag story time event, free to all to attend, on a date of our choosing this year’. Before the end of the year, the Council would also have to provide facilities for a ‘charitable drag event’.

But McQuaker said, ‘I did not do anything wrong. If anybody needs training it is the LGBTQ2+ to quit pushing their weight around and make demands that people cannot live with.’

The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario has now ordered The Corporation of the Township of Emo and Mayor Harold McQuaker to pay compensation to the group ‘for injury to dignity, feelings and self-respect’. Town officials have also been ordered to attend ‘equality’ training.

Responding to the tribunal ruling, Borderland Pride Director Douglas Judson claimed, ‘Generally this is a non-controversial thing. But it’s an important signal in a small community.’

A GoFundMe campaign to support the 77-year-old Mayor has so far raised half of the amount to replace the funds that were removed by the authorities.

I looked up the local Pride organisation, whose own version of the story confirms the veracity of that quoted above:

The claimants were Borderland Pride, the Northern Ontario Pride Network (NOPN), Douglas W. Judson (a director of Borderland Pride), and Katie Shoemaker (a 2SLGBTQIA+ resident of the municipality). Their claim alleged that the council’s refusal to make the requested proclamation constituted discrimination in the provision of a service, contrary to the Human Rights Code, on the protected grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, creed, and family status.

The Head of this local Pride group told Douglas Media:

"As a lawyer who does this work that means I’m going to start taking people’s houses and their vehicles and their toys and draining their bank accounts and garnishing their wages because no one is going to stop behaving this way until there are real consequences"

This is truly terrifying, and more appropriate for Soviet Russia than 'liberal' Canada. May God help us all.
