Christ's Word, Brindle's Pulpit

8.30 edit

I like carvings and sculptures, but I prefer they were not in church, nor of supernatural figures. The carving of the Lord Jesus found on the pulpit of Brindle Parish Church I therefore admire with mixed emotions. I did ponder its place on the pulpit. As the preacher preaches, so this wooden sculpture looks on, beholding the very congregation as they hear the real Jesus’ words of life.

We know the Lord joins us for worship, where several gather in His name. The preacher, if he is faithful, will share His word. Through the sermon, the Spirit will gently convict hearts and apply His attentions. The Lord Jesus, from afar and from close-by, gently beholds the people He has bought and listens carefully to what is said in His name. Those who presume to speak, beware. Those who deign to listen and ignore, be cautioned.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. Matthew 7:26
