Egyptian Gate

The Egyptian Gate at Marsden Park in Nelson is known locally as ‘Wishing Gate’ after the local custom of picking a leaf from a tree and placing it in one of the carved holes before walking through the gate and making a wish. Sure enough, leaves had been curled up and left within the gate’s orifices. What these people want or desire, I know not. That it can be procured and purchased for the cost of a leaf is a little surprising. The most precious and vital thing we need is a right relationship with God- and this we can obtain freely, upon request. Keep your leaves and tokens, just come to Him with a sincere heart. Come not to the Gate of Egypt but to the Gate of heaven, the Door and Way to God, Jesus Christ Himself.

Joel 2:32 “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”
