Filling Up at Church

The old United Presbyterian Church at Whithorn in southern Scotland now serves as a petrol station and garage. Although it looks rather grander than the usual establishment dispensing petrols and diesels, there is something sad about a former church becoming such. We need transport, and we need fuel, but our spiritual lives need filling and empowering, too. Fellowshipping, hearing the Bible read and expounded, joining in corporate prayer and worship: all of these give us the fuel we need for the coming week. The stunted, sluggish or stationary Christian suffers for want of fuel. They are too busy to attend church when all is well, and too melancholic to attend when all is unwell.
