Green Tomato Chutney

A previous blog from over a year ago detailed my failed, green tomatoes. A colleague, hearing of my disappointment, agreed to turn them into chutney, the proceeds of which we would split. They required additional ingredients and treatment to make the horrid little things edible and palatable, but the finished product was quite delicious. During the first few weeks of lockdown when I was scouring the cupboards, a few teaspoons’ worth added extra pleasure to cheese and biscuits.

I sometimes wonder if my life’s spiritual fruit is a tub of green tomatoes: plenty to look at but otherwise worthless. Well God takes that unripened, puny and tasteless fruit and makes something good out of it. As the Saviour made much of loaves and fishes, so He takes our paltry offerings, using them for His glory.
