Israelism Revival Fellowship

I came across some shop premises in Wakefield’s centre which seemed to be advertising Christian conversion testimonies. This seemed rather refreshing for a godless British high street, and I scanned them with interest. The organisation is evidently Pentecostal, its website explaining that
"The Bible evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, a direct language to speak to God. [The Holy Spirit] will change your life! It is the power of God in you to make you whole. Healings and miracles will begin when you pray."
I did not believe this even when I was an elder in an Elim Pentecostal Church. However, I do know that we each have a language with which to speak directly to God. For me, it is English, for others its French, Urdu, Mandarin, etc. God can and does heal, of course, but He does not guarantee it; anyone who begins his prayer life with this solid expectation may well grapple with disappointment within a few days. Nevertheless, it was something else which appeared in those shop windows which stole my breath, rather than the usual Pentecostal hobbyhorses.
Beneath a depiction of the British royal coat of arms was an explanation of British Israelism, the rather peculiar and weird belief that the Anglo-Saxons (and, sometimes, the ancient Celts/Britons whom they displaced) were the Lost Tribes of Israel and that the British, American and Australian nations are the heirs of the old Abrahamic promises, the Sons of Blessing, the rightful children of God. A sample:
The British Coat of Arms displays the national emblems of ancient Israel. Note especially the lion and the unicorn supporting the shield, both prominent identifications of the Israel nation. These are amazing pointers to the identity of Great Britain, and related Anglo-Saxon nations of the world, with the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel. Speaking of Israel, the Bible says, “...he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn...he couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up?" (Numbers 24:8- 9).
Official Jewish spokesmen acknowledge that they are not to be found amongst the Jews of today. The problem is simple, they must be in existence, and all that has to be done is to identify them. In looking to identify the Lost Tribes of Israel, we find that the Anglo-Saxon group of nations bear every historical and prophetic mark of lost Israel.
In the Bible, God made covenant promises to the people of Israel. They were to spread abroad to the West, and to the East, and to the North, and to the South (Genesis 28). The Anglo-Saxon people have done just this, and have colonised to the four corners of the earth. Israel was also to become "a nation and a company of nations" (Genesis 35). Today, we see the Anglo-Saxon nations divided basically into this grouping, the U.S.A., a nation; and the British Commonwealth, a company of nations.
The MOTTOS on the Coat of Arms are most interesting. Under the shield is the motto, "Dieu et mon droit", meaning 'God And My Right’. In the beginnings of the Bible story we read how Israel, whose former name was Jacob, obtained the God-given birthright of an everlasting national covenant. The other motto around the shield, "Honi soit qui mal y pense", means 'Evil To Him Who Speaks Evil Of It. This again was God's covenant promise to Israel, when He declared, "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee" (Genesis 12:3).
This gobbledegook cannot stand serious historical scrutiny. ‘Official Jewish spokesmen’, the Scottish unicorn and English lion (which was originally a leopard) are conveniently afforded scant substantiation. This baloney was fashionable in late Victorian England and up until the mid-twentieth century when Britain was powerful and had a strong influence on the world. Then, this pseudo-religious-nationalism must have been a comforting distraction as other nations began their rise to prominence and Christian decline was already discernible.
I am indeed a child of Abraham, by faith and not birth, by Christ and not ancestry, through His blood and not my own. Britain certainly needs revival, but this is not it.

For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 1:11
