Lazy Governments
The Daily Telegraph had an article this week:
Starmer leads laziest government in modern times, figures show
It went on to explain:
Sir Keir Starmer leads the laziest new government in modern times, data have revealed. Following the election in July 2024, Labour has been the most inactive of any newly elected government in the modern period, according to analysis shared by the Conservatives.
By the end of its first 200 days in power, the Government had brought six pieces of primary legislation into force. This compares to nine bills in the first 200 days of Margaret Thatcher’s first government, 11 in the first 200 days of Tony Blair’s first government, and eight bills in the first 200 days of David Cameron’s first government. Of the six bills introduced by the Labour government, three began life under the previous Conservative government and one is a standard budgetary bill.
If this is the case, Sir Keir and His Majesty's Government are to be congratulated. I have increasingly held the view that the more meddling and interfering there is from Whitehall and Westminster, the worse for all concerned. The Telegraph writer, however, attributes this perceived indolence to incompetence rather than any heartfelt desire to leave us alone to live our lives. Furthermore, there is talk of three dark sounding bills being presented this Parliament: banning ‘conversion therapy’ which may penalise faithful, gospel-preaching churches, enlarging the state’s powers to murder the elderly and infirm, and some kind of Islamic blasphemy law. I am all for lazy governments and lethargic occupants of No 10, but not when they may be investing all their available energies in Satanically-inspired legislation which further undermines what little is left of our rich, Christian foundations.
My heritage is to Me like a speckled vulture;
The vultures all around are against her.
Come, assemble all the beasts of the field,
Bring them to devour!
“Many rulers have destroyed My vineyard,
They have trodden My portion underfoot;
They have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
They have made it desolate;
Desolate, it mourns to Me;
The whole land is made desolate,
Because no one takes it to heart.
Jeremiah 12:9-11, New King James Version
God, have mercy.
