Misinformation Facility
There is a handy map upon a wall at Skipton Railway Station, so visitors may identify points of interest or gain their bearings. Ermysted’s Grammar School and Skipton Girls’ High School, which are both important institutions in the town to which visitors might repair, are simply marked ‘Education Facility’.
Is this unhelpful refusal to give their names a result of Northern Rail’s incompetence, laziness or some cack-handed attempt to appear impartial? Curiously, the library is labelled, and is not called a ‘Printed Document Distribution Facility’ and neither are the various streets near the station named ‘Multiple Residential Dwelling Facilities’. I suspect that some bland company bureaucrat sought an easier life and made a whole load of unhelpful maps for each of its stations, and this useless piece of cartography is the result for Skipton in Craven.
People often rave about other religions’ holy books and how helpful or inspiring they are. In reality, however, they can see our need for salvation, but cannot quite show us the way; they speak of gods and prophets, but can never quite name Jesus as Prophet, Priest, King and, most importantly, Saviour.
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21, NKJV
