Nothing New at the NEU

Last year, Jewish member of the National Education Union, Peter Block, was heckled at the annual conference when he made statements supportive of Israel. At this year’s conference, he himself interrupted a speech which accused Israel of ‘apartheid’ and that it has ‘committed genocide’. On this occasion, anti-heckling procedures were speedily enacted, and he was promptly ejected from the auditorium. He claims that the union is producing anti-semitic teaching materials for its half million members, which is ironic considering Hamas’s opposition to trades unions and hostility to LGBTQ people, whose cause British trade unions are perpetually advocating.

It seems that the West’s Left and Right take turns in their despising of Jews. As a Christian, I am not required to support everything that the secularist state of Israel does, and nor do I think any Jew can be reconciled to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob apart from the Lord Jesus Christ. But the derision of Jews from the time of Haman the Agagite and Antiochus Epiphanes down to the twenty-first century is one long winded expression of antipathy to their God. Satan and his cronies certainly hate Christians, though they seem to take particular delight in assaulting the race from which Messiah, their bitterest enemy and Conqueror, was born, and among whom He lived, died, and lived again.
