Out of the Floodgates

“It turns out the critics were right.”

So writes Time Magazine. It was said both in the UK and the US, that should the state meddle with the millennia-old definition of marriage, the floodgates would be opened, the slope made all the slippier. The New York Post reports this month that an adult in the city is seeking to challenge the law against incest, so they can marry and have legal intercourse with their adult child. In his or her papers filed at the Manhattan Federal Curt, the plaintiff states:

“Through the enduring bond of marriage, two persons, whatever relationship they might otherwise have with one another, can find a greater level of expression, intimacy and spirituality.”

Of course, we might respond with horror and revulsion- but why? So long as they procreate no children, and therefore risk no genetic mutations such a union might create, what reasons have we for opposing it? Who can argue against the claim than marriage’s ‘enduing bond’ should no be enjoyed by these two loving adults?

We Bible believers simply turn to God’s word, which in Leviticus 18 is crystal clear:

“None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the Lord. The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness. The nakedness of your father’s wife you shall not uncover; it is your father’s nakedness. The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you shall not uncover.”

God has forbidden it, therefore it is wrong. You might be sexually attracted to your mother or father, and they to you- but is it still wrong. The Creator has ruled it so, His court has pronounced. Yet Western culture has discarded its Judaeo-Christian heritage and godly basis of morality; we have torn up the rule book and ignored the Bible. We allow easy divorce, we tolerate fornication, we redefine marriage. Why not allow a parent and adult child to marry? Why not allow marriages with multiple spouses? Attempting to forbid such unions without reference to God’s word will only fail, and eventually result in their acceptance and celebration. In two decades, same-sex marriage will be such old hat, for the really woke will be marrying their mums, dads, grandparents and children.

Truly, these are the days of which Jesus spoke:

Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:28-29)
