VE Day: Up the Bunting

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied Victory in Europe, the formal conclusion of hostilities between Britain and the Nazi gangsters who controlled the Continent. We had refused to yield to violence and tyranny, and briefly stood alone against an implacable and terrifying foe. God delivered us from the heavy, fascist jackboot but at the cost of many servicemen and women's lives, as well as civilians and non-combatants.

About the frontage of my modest home, I put the Union flag and some bunting, and at the chapel, too. I pray that today’s enemies of Gospel truth and Christian civilisation, at home and abroad, will be similarly frustrated, opposed and defeated. May God save the Duke*, and may God save us all.

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!
