Lies on Paradise Street

On Paradise Street in London’s Bermondsey is St. Peter & The Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church. An ironic address, perhaps, and the building was not of particular note. I would otherwise have kept walking, but for the paper pinned to the noticeboard showing the Pope, head bowed in prayer:

Pope Francis has appealed to world leaders to address climate change before it's too late, warning the planet is nearing a "point of no return".

Pray with us for climate justice

The climate crisis is growing. We need those who hold positions of power to act justly. We want you to pray with us for climate justice and take action by sharing your prayers with COP28 negotiators and political leaders.

Pray, individually, with your family or with a larger group, for those who hold positions of power and agency to act justly, especially with regards to international climate negotiations.

The late Pope seriously believed that the world could be destroyed by human pollution? Did he not even know the teaching of his own church? Catholicism is a counterfeit Christianity, but on some issues (eg abortion and the trinity) it is sound and correct. Yet this decade, even the Pope had bought into the lie man-made climate change is the greatest enemy to life. Au Contrair, Vicar of Christ, it is the coming of the Lord Jesus in whose name you spoke which is the greater threat to a godless world. That is a more terrifying prospect than a frozen or heated-up planet.
