Lochmaben Castle

We had better luck locating Lochmaben’s Castle than its stone. The former, of course, is somewhat larger and harder to miss. Like many of the northern kingdom’s ancient sites and fortified places, it has a long and bloody history. Although it changed hands on numerous occasions, it remarkably fell to Francis Stewart, 5th Earl of Bothwell, in 1592 when it was said that he had dressed as a woman.. Perhaps the earl made a comely woman, and the lonely members of the garrison thought him some fresh doxy with whom they might while away the long hours of guard duty. Little did they know.
Satan is fond of disguises, masquerades, masks and subterfuges. He appeared to Eve as a wise serpent offering lessons in theology, and as a sweet angel to gullible, false prophets, inventing whole new religions and scriptures in imitation of that which is true and authored by the Living God. More than castles have been lost by his deceitful machinations.

And no marvel: for Satan himself is transformed into an Angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing, though his ministers transform themselves, as though they were the ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, 1599 Geneva Bible
