From the Archive: Until the "All Clear"

A little set of cards have been found in the Salem Chapel archive. Presumably from the Second World War, they point the reader to Jesus Christ in times of ‘raids’ and ‘falling bombs’. This is an experience few of our generation have had to suffer. Well might little cards have been made to remind nervous people of God’s sovereignty and the Lord Jesus keeping us safe “until the ‘All Clear’”. I am a little puzzled as to why these examples were not distributed rather than kept bound in a box; perhaps the deacons over ordered.

We are repeatedly told that war is brewing. A belligerent American President, a Russian tsar in all but name, an angry Islamic dictatorship fighting revolution, Arab bullyboys goading Israel, and a Chinese dragon stirring for its place in the sun – all make a complex and explosive concoction. Will war come? Probably. Will it shift God so much as an inch from His throne?

Never.

He maketh wars to cease unto the ends of the world, he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear, and burneth the chariots with fire. Psalm 46:9, Geneva Bible
