Wolvesey Castle

Wolvesey Castle, above, was the fortified home of the medieval Bishops of Winchester. Constructed by Henry de Blois, King Stephen’s brother, during times of national strife and anarchy, one cannot entirely blame him for wanting to feel safe. Although a seventeenth century bishop’s palace is right next door, the castle is now ruinous. The only part of it to survive is the chapel, which one can see below.

I wonder if the only activity we do below which we shall repeat in heaven is worship. There will no evangelism, no prayer meetings, and certainly no more decorating the spare room or queuing at the post office. Our time spent worshipping God and enjoying His sweet presence will survive our deaths and all else. If this be the case, why don’t we do more of it, and less of all the rest?

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4
