Earnsdale Reservoir

Earnsdale Reservoir at Darwen I walked past a few nights ago towards dusk. Friends and I were returning from a walk to a good dinner and a warm fireside. The air was developing a nip and the darkness was approaching with haste. But for some ducks which viewed our approach as providing a likely meal, the water was perfectly still, offering an almost perfect reflection of the moody sky above it.

We Christians repeat “Thy Kingdom come” when the Lord’s prayer we say. Although it is essentially a cry for the Lord Jesus to return and conclude the world’s rebellion, it is also a plea that our work on earth be an extension, or reflection, of that heavenly kingdom. May our churches, our homes and ourselves be an altogether more perfect reflection of heaven’s peace, the Father’s grace, Christ’s reign and the Spirit’s vitality.
