Pipes of Rome
Online posts sometimes unfavourably contrast the durability of ancient Roman roads, some of which survive, to the potholed highways of patchworked tarmac we have today. Similarly, I saw a famous lead water pipe at Bath's Roman baths which meme writers have employed to demonstrate the poor workmanship of modern plumbing with its leaks and blockages. Unfortunately, Roman religion, as well as its roads and pipework, has proved just as enduring. The old gods of Rome were rebranded as Popish saints with their altars, priests and basilicae. Rome’s influence cannot be underestimated, but the old harlot’s days are numbered, and the Lamb’s bride will enter New Jerusalem to be with Christ forever.
