Look Up, Look Down

Last September, I wrote about walking across Larpool Viaduct, enjoying the views below. This spring, I walked under it, enjoying the views above. Despite the angle, altitude and elevation, this wonderful structure is a marvel to behold from whichever viewing point. Scripture often uses the phrase ‘looked down’ when speaking of the Lord (eg Lam 3:50), while urging us to ‘look up’ (eg Ps 5:3). To look down on the world and all that is in it, is to see it from God’s perspective. To look up to heaven is to look to the Living God, His beauty, majesty and wisdom. Wherever we look, may we always be aware of our God’s wonder and holiness. Look down on sin, as He does; look up to heaven, where He is: God is glorified by both.
