1835 Sampler

We have a couple of old samplers in the chapel, including one by Martha Dean, from 1835. It seems a little macabre asking to keep the thought of death in her mind. Life back then was often short and hard. Our lives are often long, too long. May her prayer also be ours: our fear is not a quick death, but a slow one in a home, wherein our zeal and courage falters, and our lips become silent.
