African Daisy

This African Daisy (dimorphotheca jucunda) I found growing in the grounds of Worcester Cathedral in the summer. A native to South Africa, it was likely brought here by imperial administrators, keen to share the beauty of the other hemisphere. Upon seeing it, the word that most readily springs to mind is ‘simplicity’.
Some people tell me that they have a ‘simple’ faith, usually with an apologetic tone, yet I like the sound of this very much. So long as the word is not a screen for less pleasant attributes, like ‘lazy’, ‘half-hearted’ or ‘thoughtless’, I think it perfectly in keeping with the Lord’s admonition that we best come to Him as little children, not complicating everything. Simple faith is at the heart of the gospel.
Oh, how sweet the glorious message simple faith may claim:
Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same;
Still He loves to save the sinful, heal the sick and lame,
Cheer the mourner, still the tempest glory to His name!
