Allium

I rather like the distinctive shape of the allium which grows in our chapel grounds, its spherical flower head bobbing about in the wind. Two uses of the word 'shape' struck me from the Authorised Version of the Bible:

David laments: ‘Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me’. (Psalm 51:5)

The Lord Jesus observes: “And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.” (John 5:37)

Our sin is very much obvious; of God’s nature, we are much ignorant. The gospel of Jesus Christ changes us into something rather better, and reveals to us the God we could not otherwise detect or know. Praise God!
