The Common Market (1963)

William Roberts painted ‘The Common Market‘ in 1963. Back then, we were debating joining the European common market which we did the following decade. Two years ago, we voted to leave the political union into which this market had evolved. The decision has split parties, ended political careers and rendered politics unusually hostile and divisive.

As our nation, and others, enter periods of turmoil and uncertainty, it would behove the Christian to reflect upon the sovereignty of God. The nations’ turbulence troubles Him not a jot, for their days are numbered, and His kingdom is coming to earth:

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall [n]break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
