Edgeley Community Church

Edgeley Community Church near Stockport is one of those peculiar buildings from the sixties or seventies which must have seemed wonderfully modern at the time of construction. I was unable to gain entry but those long panes of glass look unconducive to winter warmth. Although it claims on its website to be a “vibrant church”, its current status of United Reformed Church/Methodist combo might generally suggest otherwise. A gigantic cross seems to be built into its porch which then rises upwards, not out of keeping with those long, thin panes. Let us hope that the theology of the Cross (man’s sin punished and atoned for by Christ’s crucified flesh) dominates the internals as much as the white symbol decorates the externals.

For I esteemed not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2, Geneva.
