Fire Flower

This sneezeweed, a plant about which I wrote some years back, I found growing in the walled garden at Lincolnshire’s Gunby Hall. If ever a flower looked like a fire, even without long, lily-like petals, this would be it. A flower that looks like a fire? -Why, yes!

Scripture not infrequently likens the heavenly majesty to some earthly reality, like gates of pearl, feet like brass, streets of gold. It is hard for us to imagine, yet the pictures are helpful, even though the reality is always much better. If we really knew the riches and splendour awaiting us, the dreary pilgrimage down here we would tolerate the better.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1
