Hints of Eternity

I went visiting at the hospital last month. I was early, as usual, and killed some time in the chapel. It is not a place at which I would wish to formally worship, but it provides a more pleasant waiting area than any of the wards and departments are able to offer. I was interested in the stained glass windows, which beamed colourful rays of sunshine onto the mustard carpet and purple altar cloth. It was a reminder that, amidst the clinical and sterile colours of the hospital floors and ceilings, a whole world of vibrant life and vivid hue still existed beyond those walls. To an in-patient, such a reminder is surely precious. May we be reminded that this oft-colourless and hostile world is but temporal; the magnificent fireworks of eternity are but a breath away.

But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy! Psalm 68:3 ESV
