She does as she Pleases

We are told that teenagers are a product of the 1950s. Not so. Catharine Cudney, aged 15, had her occupation described on the 1880 census as one who 'does as she pleases'. This pithy observation aptly conveys Farmer Cudney's frustration with his young daughter.
