St Paul’s Baptist, Skegness

St Paul’s in the Lincolnshire town of Skegness one might mistake for an Anglican parish church, with its saintly dedication, tall belltower and neo-gothic architecture. It was certainly built towards the end of nineteenth or early twentieth centuries when nonconformity had reached its zenith, rivalling the power, influence and aura of the established church which it was able to mimic in style and budget. Sadly, as the new century wore on, nonconformists succumbed to the liberalistic cancer more quickly than the Anglicans, and shrivelled up the faster as a result. Thankfully, St Paul’s Baptist Church at Skeg seems to have retained its evangelical character.

Whatever the name, the style, or the ethos, if the gospel is not preached, if the Bible is not paramount, if God’s honour is not the objective, then any supposed church is either dying or dead.

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Galatians 6:14
