Tweedsmuir Stone Circle

At Menzion near Tweedsmuir in Peeblesshire, Scotland, are three standing stones which have been dated to about 2000 years before the birth of the Redeemer. The biggest is naturally called the Giant’s Stone and various legends attach themselves to it. They have been collectively called a druid circle or temple, but they are too early for that caste of ancient wise men, though the druids might have recycled them for their own purposes 1500 years after they were erected. The Second Statistical Account of 1845, describe them as: “…the remains of a Druidical temple or Pictish court of justice” and that there were other stones, since carried off to help construct dykes.

As we do not know the purpose of stone circles (assuming that their purposes were uniform the length and breadth of the island), a court of justice seems no less reasonable an explanation than a temple or something else. Indeed, they likely had multiples uses, and a courtroom/temple/council chamber might all have been combined.

Just as the builders' society (or societies) declined and died out, so the Western world is similarly ebbing away. Liberal democracy has degenerated into godless materialism, opening the doors for renewed paganism and false religion, which both flourish while gospel witness flickers in their draught. What we have built will not last, what we think permanent will not endure. Religion is corrupted and justice compromised, but a better Kingdom is coming, for a greater King is readying to claim our earth and occupy it forever.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
